What made you want to consider a career in construction?
Growing up I was around construction machines a lot, due to Andy (my dad) starting up Harper Plant Ltd when I was 4. I have always been interested in the machines and as I got older my interest grew. After college I went into the catering industries and lasted 6 months. I joined Harper Plant on a short term basis, until I figured out what path I wanted to take. I have now been here for 7 years and I love it!
What is the best thing about working with Kubota?
The machines are very easy to understand. I originally started as a receptionist and am now the service manager running a team of service fitters. I like to get involved when services/ breakdowns come in so I can understand the practical side of things as well as the theory side.
Do you have any advice for young women considering a career in construction?
Go for it! The construction industry has always been more male dominated but I have seen a change in the last 7 years of more women joining the industry.
If you put your mind to it, you can do it.
What else could the construction industry be doing to encourage more women into the sector?
Reach out to more women who may want to do a more hands on job instead of an office based job.
