Bridget Morris is a placement student currently working within Kubota’s construction department. A farmer’s daughter from Gloucestershire with a background in arable crops and pig breeding, Bridget is currently enjoying a 12-month placement with Kubota, as part of a four-year degree course at Harper Adams University studying agriculture with farm business management.
“As I’m from a family farm, I wanted to seek something very different to farm work for my placement year,” says Bridget. “And the chance to join Kubota has so far provided me with a more diverse industry-led opportunity – it’s certainly one to grab with both hands.”
“And it is also a very diverse role,” says Bridget. “My first six months were spent working with the tractor and groundcare business, and my last six months are being spent with Kubota’s construction division. It has been great to have the opportunity to see the similarities and differences between the two industries.”
Bridget says her placement year has so far been beyond her expectations. “I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy lots of travelling, visiting dealers, and understanding more about how manufacturers and dealers work together to support their customers,” explains Bridget.
Gaining an insight into marketing with a premium manufacturer is also something that she hopes will help her to fulfil long-term career goals. “I’d like to travel and explore many different areas of farming and food production around the world,” says Bridget. “Working with a world-renowned company such as Kubota certainly has its benefits.”
Away from work, Bridget remains a farmer at heart, and her love of livestock and in particular Gloucester Old Spot pigs, has brought many awards for her pedigree breed.
“Showing livestock is a hugely rewarding hobby,” says Bridget. “And the desire to produce award-winning animals is also one that keeps me on my toes.”
