Easy access handler

One of the first Kubota KTH telehandlers sold into agriculture is earning its keep with a livestock farmer in Pembrokeshire, offering easy cab access combined with generous lift and reach.

Gwyn Davies is focussed on making his daily livestock chores as comfortable as possible. It is why he chooses machinery that is not just capable and reliable, but is also easy to get on and off.

“It’s the main reason I bought the KTH telehandler from JE Rees,” he said. “It has a low cab which is very easy to get in and out of. It helps me enormously because I don’t want to be climbing up and down lots of steps to get in and out of cabs. I’m not a young guy anymore, and have to think about making my working days as easy and comfortable as possible.”

Previous experience of using a compact telehandler influenced Mr Davies to buy the KTH for bale handling and feeding duties at Ty-Mawr, Fishguard in Pembrokeshire.

“It’s much easier to use than a tractor and loader, and the manoeuvrability is fantastic,” he said. “I can lift higher and reach further than a tractor and loader, and it turns really tight around the farm yard.”

The KTH 4815-2 offers a maximum lift height of 4.8m and a maximum lift capacity of 1.5 tonnes. An overall width of 1.6m and an overall height of less than 2m lends itself to those with traditional buildings.

Power comes from a transverse-mounted, 50hp Kubota three-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, driving both axles via a hydrostatic transmission. And with four-wheel steering, an outside turning radius of 2.7m can be achieved.

“It’s so easy to put feed into all the right places without having to have a shunt and think about how I’m going to get my work done,” he said. “And with its low cab, the KTH is very easy to get in and out of. I can just step into the cab.”

And it’s a similar thought process for Gwyn who also has a two-year old RTV X1110 UTV.

“It’s another machine that is just so easy to get in and out of, and a bit like my local dealer, I wouldn’t be without any of them,” he said. “The RTV is very easy to drive, though I would like an opening window in the door, so it’s easier to stop and chat with neighbouring farmers when I’m out and about.”
